OFA Certifications Extended

WorkSafe BC to increase OFA certifications to 3 years

In the November 2009 bulletin from WorkSafe BC they have advised: "The change in duration from 2 to 3 years for all OFA and equivalent course certification and the removal of the automatic requirement for medicals has been approved." Other key changes to the curriculum for OFA courses are also identified in this notice...

You can view the complete text of the WorkSafe BC bulletin for the complete details but here are some key changes to expect:

  • All levels: 3 year certifications
  • All levels: Addition of AED training
  • Level 1: now considered ´Lay Rescuer´ ie: no rescue breathing
  • Level 3: removal of traction and joint manipulation

As a result of these pending changes, anyone requiring Workplace First Aid courses, may wish to consider waiting for the new protocols to come into effect before taking a re-certification course.
